Tide Pool & Beach Visit
Sat January 21 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm PST
Join us at Dike Rock to enjoy our coast at one of the lowest tides of the year! We will be there from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. The low tide (-2.02 feet) is at 3:20 pm.
Dike Rock is located about a 10 minute walk north of the Scripps Pier. Look for the large rocky area exposed by the low tide.
How to find us: If you’d like to walk together, meet at the bottom of the staircase at the southwest corner of parking lot P002 off Kennel Way promptly at 2:00. You can also look for the big blue and orange umbrella to find us on the beach.
Bring your family and friends, but not the furry ones. Dogs are not permitted on the beach (on or off leash) until after 4pm. Reaching this spot involves a fair amount of walking on the beach, so it may not be appropriate for everyone. With the low tide, there’s plenty of beach to walk on and accessing the beach is not difficult. Please dress for the conditions and know your own limits.
Two options for parking:
Free parking: Park at the north end of the lot at La Jolla Shores (8300 Camino Del Oro, La Jolla, CA 92037), then walk north on the beach about 1 mile. You might also find street parking along El Paseo Grande.
Paid parking: There is a small lot on the Scripps Institute of Oceanography campus next to Caroline’s Seaside Restaurant (8610 Kennel Way, La Jolla 92037). There is a machine (and an app) to pay to park in this lot. The fee is $2 an hour on weekends. There are stairs down to the beach below Caroline’s. Walk north on the beach about 1/2 mile.
